A huge shout out to all who joined us in Lincoln last for the 2023 fall conference. From attendees to presenters, to our keynotes and sponsors, as well as our amazing committee, we can not thank each of you for coming together to network, learn, and celebrate!

We also send our gratitude to the Nebraska Arts Council and Nebraska Humanities Council for their support through the grant given to NATA to help with our keynote expenses. The support of these two arts organizations is felt and appreciated.

Registration

CONFERENCE REGISTRATION, PAID WORKSHOPS, AND BANQUET TICKET PAYMENT

NATA will invoice you or your school/district for payment. Payment accepted will be by check or credit card.  Please look for an email from NATA Treasurer Laura Huntimer (natatreasurer@gmail.com) within a week of your submission. You will NOT receive a confirmation after registering. Your payment receipt is your confirmation to attend the conference.

Keynote Speakers


Anne Thulson

Anne Thulson taught Contemporary Art practices for 20 years at a K-8 Denver public school and her summer camp, School of the Poetic City. As a Professor in Art Education at Metropolitan State University of Denver, she teaches pre- service teachers in contemporary art education. Her recent publications include Teaching Contemporary Art to Young People: Themes in Art for K-12 Classrooms, Teacher's College Press (2021) and What Happens at the Intersection of Conceptual Art & Teaching? Amsterdam University of the Arts Press, (2023). She also makes art through traditional and post-studio methods and works daily to become an anti- racist/anti-biased teacher.

Friday Keynote

Jorge Lucero

Artist Jorge Lucero currently serves as Associate Dean for Research in the College of Fine and Applied Arts and as Associate Professor of Art Education in the School of Art & Design at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign. Formerly a Chicago Public School teacher, Lucero’s lifelong testing of school’s materiality happens as visible and invisible artworks, writing, and teaching. Recently, he co-edited (with Catalina Hernandez-Cabal) the book What Happens at the Intersection of Conceptual Art & Teaching? published by the Amsterdam University of the Arts and he’s currently finishing the manuscript for a forty-interview compendium called Alongside Teacher: Conversations about What, Where, and Who Artists Learn with. In 2023 Lucero had major exhibitions at The University of Tennessee, the Center for Visual Art in Denver, and the College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, MA. Also in 2023, he was named the National Art Education Association’s Higher Ed Educator of the Year.

Meet the Juror!

Sophie Isaak was born in Boston, MA. After graduating from the University of Vermont with a degree in English and Studio Art, Isaak went on to receive an MA and MFA in Printmaking from the University of Iowa. Bound to intense colors, awkward and surprising forms and idiosyncratic compositions, Isaak utilizes printmaking, drawing and painting techniques to create complex compositions. Her work has been displayed nationally in several solo and juried exhibitions. Recently Isaak has exhibited at Ortega y Gasset Projects in Brooklyn, NY, Collar Works in Troy, NY, the Four Rivers Print Biennial in Carbondale, IL and Highpoint Center for Printmaking in Minneapolis, MN. . Isaak serves as the President of the Mid America Print Council, an educational and community-based organization that focuses on all print related arts. She has taught printmaking at Skidmore College, the University of Massachusetts Lowell, Lesley University and Oberlin College. She is currently an Assistant Professor of Printmaking at the UNL.

The banquet will be taking place in the Banquet Hall on the 2nd floor of the building. Enter through the doors titled "Conference
Center", then go up the stairs to the banquet hall.


PARKING


If you are staying at the Graduate Hotel, you can leave your parked car in their parking garage and use their shuttle service to get dropped off and picked up. To do this, talk with the front desk and request a shuttle telling them you are with the NATA Fall Conference and you need a shuttle for pick up.

Anyone not staying at the hotel will be able to park in the Graduate Hotel parking garage for the cost of $5. To do this, park in their garage and then bring your parking ticket to get validated at the front desk for $5 parking. You can pay at the front desk for this and then, when you leave the garage you just slip the ticket in the reader at the exit and the gate will open.

When you are ready to leave the banquet, call the Graduate Hotel front
desk ((402) 475-4011) and request a return shuttle

Dress Code


Wear what you feel most comfortable in.

As it is an awards banquet,many guests will wear business casual and cocktail dress.
